The Regulator for Charities in England and Wales
In carrying out its function as registrar and regulator, the Commission from time to time makes decisions which concern points of law, are novel, significant or otherwise of wider interest and use.
Many concern issues of charitable status where the Commission has to examine what the law regards as charitable and apply it to the particular circumstances. It may, in the course of making its decision, where appropriate, accept a new novel charitable purpose as being within that legal framework. The Commission’s stated policy on the recognition and acceptance of novel charitable purposes is most recently set out in the Commission’s publication Recognising New Charitable Purposes RR1A
