A number of organisations provide advice and support for the third sector in a variety of ways, some with relation to day to day operations, some with regard to development of land and buildings:
JustAct is a website that supports Third Sector organisations to help each other create, implement and review their action plan on climate change
UKCIP helps organisations to adapt to inevitable climate change. UKCIP's resources will help you to understand what the future climate might bring, what impact it could have and provide methodologies to help you to prepare. You can also learn from the experience of others through adaptation case studies from across the UK.
Works with larger organisations to reduce their carbon footprints. With Charity Commission support they have produced a publication specifically for charities.
Green Communities is a programme from the Energy Saving Trust that aims to support, facilitate and promote community based energy projects. Green Communities gives advice focused on project planning, funding and technical support, as well as other resources.
Groundwork is a group of charities helping people and organisations make changes in order to create better neighbourhoods, to build skills and job prospects, and to live and work in a greener way. They operate across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and work on thousands of individual projects each year. They focus our activity on disadvantaged communities where they can make most difference.
A partnership between Groundwork and Defra that will plant one million extra trees across England in the next four years. The Big Tree Plant is the first government tree planting campaign since the 1970s and will plant trees in urban areas that need them most, harnessing the Big Society to deliver benefits to local communities.
The campaign is supported by grant funding of £1 million per year for the next four years and will get more people in local communities planting and caring for trees.
The GreenSpace Community Network is a hub for community groups working with parks and green space. The Network brings together the experience and knowledge developed by community groups and creates a forum for sharing it.
The Charities Facilities Management Group is the network for people who look after buildings and facilities management issues in the voluntary sector. They have over 200 member charities around England. Membership of the Group is free.
CAT demonstrate practical ways of addressing some of the most serious challenges facing our planet and the human race, such as climate change, pollution and the waste of precious resources. They aim to show that living more sustainably is not only easy to attain but can provide a better quality of life. The key areas they work in are renewable energy, environmental building, energy efficiency, organic growing and alternative sewage systems.
CSE provides a range of services to engage people in their communities - from training volunteers and facilitating consultation to providing expert advice and project development. CSE provides support to community groups across the UK through their work managing the Energy Saving Trust's Green Communities programme.
NEA develops and promotes energy efficiency services to tackle the heating and insulation problems of low-income households.
