The CIO will be a new legal entity and it will have a new registered charity number, so you will need to inform banks, funders and suppliers of the transfer. You will also need to ensure that any existing contracts are assigned to the CIO.

• Some unincorporated charities have property (which can be land or investments) that is subject to restrictions preventing it from being spent as income. • If your unincorporated charity has a defined benefit pension scheme it is likely that the transfer to the CIO may be regarded as a cessation event by the Pensions Regulator. See guidance on Defined Benefit Pensions Schemes.
