The BOOST initiative

The Charity Commission is providing technical support, including training, to an initiative called 'BOOST'.

This is a national initiative, run by the Community Foundation Network (registered charity no. 1004630) and created to provide local support and assistance to trustees where their charity may be:

  • Finding it difficult to operate or has difficulty in acquiring new trustees;
  • Seeking partners to assist in its application of funds; or
  • Considering winding-up and is seeking help.

BOOST can provide advice and guidance on the range of legal options available to the trustees - this could include rationalising the funds and/or changing the objects so that they can be released to bring benefit to the local inhabitants.

The Charity Commission is working closely with Community Foundations because of their important position as large grant making trusts, with a tangible local presence throughout the country.  As such, they have knowledge of local circumstances and the flexibility to meet the interests of trustees and local communities.

Click here for more information about BOOST or, alternatively, you can call them on 0151-966-4604.  They will put you in touch with your local Community Foundation who can provide assistance to you on the ground.

You can also explore the options available by accessing our website.  This will give you an appreciation of the legal mechanisms involved in handling the resurrection of charitable funds, including the amendment of objects, the transfer of the funds to another charity and/or the winding-up of the charity.
