Background

At the end of May we published research, conducted by Ipsos MORI, into levels of trust and confidence in charities amongst the public. According to the report:

  • nearly 1 in 5 people (18%) say they have given more than £200 to charity in the last year;
  • nearly half of the public (47%) say they have given goods; and
  • one in three (36%) people say they, or someone they know, are actively involved with charities (either as an employee, trustee or volunteer).

These are all increases from the last time the same survey was conducted in 2005. You can view the 'Study into Public Trust and Confidence in Charities report' on our website.

In order to inform the Commission’s understanding of the charity sector’s views on these findings, as well as to give charities a chance to respond, we are holding a two events to discuss the findings, one in London and one the following week in Liverpool.

The London event is being held on Tuesday 14 October, 9.30 until 2pm at etc. venues’ The Hatton, 51-53 Hatton Garden, LONDON, EC1N 8HN.

The Liverpool event is being held on Wednesday 22 October, 11am until 4pm at The Conference Centre at LACE, Croxteth Drive, Sefton Park, Liverpool, L17 1AA.

The programme will include a presentation of the findings and speakers from, or connected to, the sector outlining their reactions to the survey. The second half to the day will include round table discussions and the chance to put your questions to a specially selected panel. You can find further details about the event, and directions to the venue in the enclosed programme.

The event will be of interest to senior staff, and perhaps particularly to those involved in communications, fundraising or PR at your charity.

Spaces may be limited so will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you would like to attend, please email Kensa Cooper. If you have any specific dietary requirements or access needs, please let Kensa know.

We look forward to welcoming you to this important sector discussion.
