Mostly, yes. Everything on this site and all of our printed material is covered by Crown Copyright but as long as you comply with the terms of our copyright statement you can copy most things for most purposes. The one exception is the Register database, which cannot be copied without prior consent from HMSO – a separate Register copyright statement applies.
We have produced a series of publications dealing with the preparation of charity accounts. SORP 2005 provides recommendations on the methods, principles, formats and disclosures used in charity accounting. In addition, packs are available that provide a layout and format for the accounts and annual reports of smaller charities producing accruals or receipts and payments accounts. Charities designing their own format for their accounts may also find the examples available on our website helpful. For more details on SORP 2005 and further accounting guidance please click here.
Yes. Nearly all of our publications are available on audio tape, and some of the most popular ones are also available in Braille. We can also produce large print versions on request. If you wish to obtain copies, the order line and Contact Centre numbers are the same as for other publications.
Yes. Nearly all of our publications are available in Welsh, and we hope to fill in most of the gaps during the next 6 to 12 months. We also produce a series of summary guidance publications, detailing the most important information on registration, administration and financial management of charities, in a number of other languages commonly spoken in the UK – Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Cantonese), Gujarati, Kurdish, Somali, Urdu, and Vietnamese. We plan to update these in the next 12 months and to review what languages we produce them in to better serve all members of the community. If you wish to obtain copies, the order line and Contact Centre numbers are the same as for other publications.
A new version of our guidance CC14 - Investment of Charitable Funds is now available. It is a technical explanation of our view of the law and best practice in this area, aimed at sector professionals and trustees with particular knowledge in this area. A shorter, less technical version, explaining the basic principles and aimed at the majority of trustees and the general public, is currently in preparation.
